Saturday morning, J got to work tearing the front side of the porch roof off. After our helpers came, they started repairing rafters, fixing the leak on the dormer and replacing rotten boards. We also took the shiplap off the interior wall on the 2 story part to fix the rotten framing. There was a bad leak where the roof met the 2 story part. The flashing was not done right, so the water just ran inside. We took both windows out so we could repair all of the framing from the porch up to the 2nd story. For now, both windows are temporary covered with plywood so we can focus on other things.

The house had no insulation anywhere, and the 1.5 story part was completely open to the porch ceiling, with huge air gaps. That makes for a super hot upstairs during the summer, and very cold in the winter! We added insulation and plywood and taped all the seams.
The after: roof and walls are reframed, new decking and water tight!

We need to fix the pantry roof leak and re-work our stairwell a little bit to add a window, and then we can put a new roof on!
